Whether you're in the Pacific Northwest during the cozy rainy season or in the bright arid summer, or in the Southwest visiting family or for the international Balloon Fiesta, we, at Ex Novo Brewing Company, have the brews, space, and causes to welcome you right into our local communities.
Starting from scratch
Ex Novo, which means "from scratch" in Latin, was founded by Joel Gregory in 2014. As an engineer, home brewer, and social justice activist, he envisioned creating a brewery that not only produced exceptional beer but also channeled its success towards doing good in the world.
Unlike other breweries that contribute to local charities occasionally, we took a step further and became Portland's first nonprofit brewery. This means that 100% of our net profits are donated to charitable causes. We settled on partnering with four charities and vowed to donate $25,000 to each: Friends of the Children, International Justice Mission, Impact NW, and Mercy Corps.
In essence, Ex Novo Brewing Company's brand story is one of transformation and purpose. Starting from humble beginnings, we have evolved into a brewery that not only brews outstanding beer but also channels its success into making a positive impact. With every sip of our beers, you become part of our noble mission to serve local communities, improve Oregon and New Mexico, give back to national initiatives, and better the world.
